hellotopher: Heard this said so many times to me by various coaches. It’s still true. Actually, there is no checkmate with just a pawn against a king (not to mention that such a position would be illegal since that would mean one side does not have a king). Even if the pawn promoted to any piece, there is no checkmate possible with just one piece (without a king). So. no. You lose.
